Spring Break '09

Gah! It sure has been a long time since I've been on this thing. That's probably because Mrs. Jenkins doesn't let us do anything fun anymore...all we do is work work work! That's why I'm so excited that next week is SPRING BREAK! I would like to go spend it somewhere far away with Darren, but that plan is looking too promising this time around. So I'll probably just stick to plan B; staying in Childress and start moving to my new house. It's not the ideal spring break, but it sure is WAAAYYY better than school, and I took of the whole week at work. I've decided that I'm just going to chillax and have a good time with out the slightest worry about anything in my mind. Oh and one more thing...THURSDAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!! Can you say sweet 16?

With no job and 5 kids, 'better to end our lives,' man wrote

It was described as one of the most grisly scenes Los Angeles police had ever encountered: the bodies of five small children and their parents, all shot to death, in two upstairs rooms of the family's home.

"The reaction on their faces was not a pretty sight," neighbor Jasmine Gomez told CNN. "There was an officer who came out of the house throwing up."

But even more incomprehensible to some was the story that emerged after the bodies were found Tuesday: A father who, after he and his wife were fired from their jobs, killed all six family members before turning the gun on himself.

In a letter faxed to Los Angeles television station KABC before his suicide, Ervin Antonio Lupoe blamed his former employer for the deaths, detailing his grievance against Kaiser Permanente's West Los Angeles Medical Center, where he and his wife Ana had worked as technicians.

Lupoe claimed the couple was being investigated for "misrepresentation of our employment to an outside agency for the benefit to ourselves's [sic], childcare." He said the initial interview was held on December 19, and when he reported for work on December 23, "I was told by my administrator ... that 'You should not even have bothered to come to work today. You should have blown your brains out.'"

Kaiser Permanente said in a statement Tuesday night that while the company is "saddened by the despair in Mr. Lupoe's letter faxed to the media ... we are confident that no one told him to take his own life or the lives of his family."

The Lupoes' employment was terminated over a week ago "after an internal investigation," the company said.

Lupoe wrote in the fax, "after a horrendous ordeal my wife felt it better to end our lives and why leave our children in someone else's hands ... we have no job and 5 children under 8 years with no place to go. So here we are."

Among those struggling to comprehend the news was Lupoe's 83-year-old grandmother, Josephine Lupoe of Atlanta, Georgia. She sobbed as she told CNN, "I just can't believe it."

She said Lupoe was born in Atlanta, but moved to Detroit, Michigan, with his parents as a child before moving to California. She recalled visiting the family when they lived in San Jose, California, "but that was years ago," she said. "I hadn't been to visit them since he got married and moved."

She said she last heard from him when he called her to say they were having a second set of twins.

"Every time I called, he was at work," Josephine Lupoe said. "He worked a lot, and even when I talked with him, he would be at work." But she said she had no indication of problems within the family.

She said she had spoken with Lupoe's mother a couple of days ago, and they discussed his sending pictures of the boys. "And then I hear this," she said tearfully.

Lupoe's mother was on the way to California on Wednesday, she said, but Josephine Lupoe said she is unable to travel.

Authorities said Lupoe and the three girls, identified by the Los Angeles Times as 8-year-old Brittney and twin 5-year-olds Jaszmin and Jasseley, were found in one upstairs room. Ana Lupoe and the boys -- twin 2-year-olds Benjamin and Christian, according to the newspaper -- were in another.

Police believe Lupoe also called 911, about the same time KABC was notifying police they had been contacted by a person who was threatening suicide. In the 911 call, police said, Lupoe reported returning home and finding his family dead.

Lupoe's co-workers told the Times they remembered the Lupoes as cheerful, good workers and caring parents.

Ana Lupoe was "always talking about the kids," said co-worker Hamlet Narvaez.

Cherise Pounders-Caver, principal of the children's school, Crescent Heights Elementary, said Lupoe showed up to check the three older children out of school about two weeks ago and told her the family was moving to Kansas, the Times reported.

The deaths sent shock waves across the city and beyond.

"No matter how desperate you are, no matter how frustrated you are, to think this was the only answer -- to take your whole family with you in death -- is just too much to understand," said City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who represents the city's Wilmington neighborhood where the slayings took place.

"It's sad that this happens anywhere, you know?" neighbor Jose Rodriguez told KABC. "You see it on the news but you never really become accustomed to it.

"I have kids, too, and grandkids," he said. "It hits home."

Alphabet Story

A man named Jimmy was walking to Cavenders Western Wear to buy a pair of boots because his old ones were ugly. Because of his new job, he had to look extremely nice and fancy. Considering the fact that boots are so expensive, and he was so broke, he had to go borrow money from the bank. Darrell at the bank said that he couldn't borrow the money that he needed due to the reason that he had borrowed money recently, and never paid it back. Everyone around him continuously reminded him that his boots looked trashy, but Jimmy just couldn't figure out a way to get the money to buy new ones. Frequently he asked his brother to loan him the money, but he had also borrowed money from him and never paid him back, so his brother refused to help him out. Garage sales were going on everywhere around town, and after finding this information out, he decided to go check and see if they had any decent looking boots for sale. Harrold (his neighbor) had a pair of boots for sale, but they were 3 sizes too small for the man's feet. Ignacio told him that there was a thrift store on 34th and Bell, so he decided to go ahead and check it also. Just incase there were more than one pair, he decided to take himself some socks so he could try them on. Kacy, being affable as usual, went along with him to see if there would be anything that she might want there. Later on that day, they arrived at the thrift store, and as big as it was, it took them quite a while to find the shoe section. Mavrick, being the shoe connoisseur that he was, helped Kacy and Jimmy make there way to through everything, and when they arrived at the shoe section, they were befuddled. No one was anywhere around, not a soul, and there were shoes everywhere! Of course there were wonderful prices on them, but no one seemed to be interested in anything there. Pugnacious puppies were all around, and the only people that were in sight were the dog keepers. "Quit running around," said the manager. Russian, leather boots were the cheapest boots there, but with all of the great prices, Jimmy decided to get some that were a little bit more pricey. Some of the other brands had good prices too, but he thought of them as crass, and he had apathy for them. "Those are the ones," said Jimmy. Under all of the clearance boots, Jimmy dug up the boots he desired the most. Vivianna told Jimmy that the boots looked great on him, and after he took them off, he sat there holding them trying to decided whether or not to buy them. "Well," he said, "I would be getting my money's worth if I bought them, considering they're everything that I've been looking for, but they're a little bit more than I expected to pay." The xylophones were playing in the background (well it seemed like that to him), and he sat there for hours on end trying to make up his mind. "Yes, I've got it," Jimmy said. "Zip, click, click, click," and off he went, wearing his new pair of boots.

It's a Dog's World!!

Hiya stranger! I'm Lola!
I like being pampered, playing with my friends (Juno, Dixie, Bella, and Melon), and biting Kat, but most of all, I LOVE cuddling with my mommy and daddy. They're always there for me, and they always take care of me when I'm sick or hurt.
One time, not too long ago actually, Momma, Daddy, and I went for a jog in the park. Ususally I don't wander off, and if I ever even consider it, Momma and Daddy get on to me for it. They don't want to lose me, I can understand that, but come on now, at least cut me a little slack?! Well, even though I wasn't intending to get lost, I saw other puppies playing, and of course I couldn't resist to join. The only problem was that they were completely on the other side of the park! We were taking a break near a picnic table, and when I looked up to see what my parents were doing, they were talking to some of their friends. I thought to myself, "This is my chance! I have to go while I can!" So there I went, sprinting across the park. I made a couple of new friends, Spike and Kate, but after they left, I had NO IDEA where to go. Considering the fact that I couldn't get any more lost than I already was, I took off searching for my family. Somehow or another, I ended up wandering around the New York Square. I'm guessing that nearly a thousand people almost stepped on me, 200 hundred nearly hit me with their bikes, and a bus, A BUS, almost ran over me. I'm pretty sure that I'd never been this scared in my life, and I definitely had never been this far away from home before. While roaming the streets (might I add that I saw some incredible things), I kept seeing these thin, white things with my face on there. And not just one or two of them, I mean they were EVERYWHERE! Even though I wanted to know what those things were, I found an ice cream cone on the ground that I seemed to be way more interested in at the moment. While munchin' away on that cone, some strange person snuck up on me and picked me up! I started freaking out! I didn't know who they were, what they were doing, or where they were taking me. Weeping away in their arms, I finally just went to sleep. It had been a really long day, I was lost, and I had no idea who was holding me or what they were going to do with me. I was nearly completely knocked out, when all of the sudden I heard the loudest scream I had ever encountered. I opened up my eyes quickly, and looking around, I spotted my mom jumping up and down and my dad with the biggest grin on his face! "They found me! They really found me!" That's all I could think of as I was squirming around, trying to get to them as quick as possible. They hugged and kissed me for literally five minutes straight, and after thanking the kind man that returned me, we headed home.
I never wandered away from my mom and dad after that, but I guess that's only because I didn't have any other option than to stay close to them.

They bought me a pretty pink leash.
